Circa 1900-1920 Society of Goffers at Blackheath Lithograph in Ornate Frame
Contained in this lot is a Circa 1900-1920 Society of Goffers at Blackheath Lithograph in Ornate Frame. The original piece was based on a painting by Lemuel Francis Abbott and was issued by Valentine Green as a Mezzotint print, circa 1790. It is one of the first golf portraits ever published, and the Blackheath golf course depicted in the print was a primitive five-to-seven-hole course. The subject of the painting is William Innes, a member of the Royal Blackheath Golfers and local merchant. His caddie is carrying numerous long nose clubs loose without a bag. The well known print is elevated to the highest presentation value with this detailed frame. This print maintains strong color. 18 3/8" x 15"
