Bobby Jones Signed 1933 Augusta National GC First Day Cover - Rare
This historic 1933 first day cover postal envelope from the opening of the famed Augusta National Golf Club has been signed by none other than golfing legend Bobby Jones. A staple of historic proportions would be the course known as Augusta National and the tournament it began hosting in 1934: The Masters. Bobby has signed a fantastic full “Robert T. Jones, Jr.” signature in black fountain pen on the envelope. Commemorating the course opening with artwork that pictures Jones referring to Augusta as “Robert T. (Bobby) Jones Course,” “Opening Jan. 13, 1933. Augusta, Ga.” and postmarked from Augusta for the occasion celebrated that day. This is one of the finest autographs that we have encountered from this revered golf legend Among his many feats, Jones accomplished what many felt impossible, winning all four majors in the same year, 1930, (the U.S. and British Opens and their respective Amateur Championship events) only to retire immediately afterwards. Jones did however participate in the Masters Tournament from its’ inception 1934 until 1948. The multi-championship winning Bobby Jones is a legend for many reasons, and this piece of golf history sums up a great deal of those.
