Bobby Jones Signed 1926 U.S. Open Piece From Atlanta Journal Constitution Newspaper - John Roth Collection

Also signed by A.W. Brewerton, the artist of the Atlanta Journal piece showing Jones and typed 'Atl. Journal June 1926 - U.S. Open Champion' in upper right hand corner

Frame measuring 6 3/4" x 8 3/4" contains caricature of Bobby Jones rising up above vast array of other golfers assembled at Sciota Country Club to capture the 1926 United States Open Championship. This piece has typed in upper right hand corner 'Atl. Journal June 1926' corresponding to its appearance in Jones' hometown newspaper the Atlanta Journal Constitution following his second U.S. Open title along with fourth of eight U.S.G.A. Championships (4-Opens,4-Amateurs). The beauty of this display is enhanced by impeccable black ink pennings from both Jones (Robert Jones Jr.) and the works artist A.W. Brewerton. With both signatures easily attaining '9-10' strength of signature quality merits. Most likely a one-of-a-kind opportunity for the Jones' collector, or any other autograph collector looking for a height of career signature from the greatest amateur golfer of all-time. James Spence Authentication has reviewed these signatures, and their letter of authenticity will come with this lot.

**THE JOHN ROTH COLLECTION**
The Ryder Cup Auction features many items from the collection of John Roth (1940-2015.) John spent 25 years amassing a collection of golf memorabilia and golf antiques that would rival most of the golf museums around the globe. John had a passion for the history and nuance of the game, its traditions and the ever-changing evolution of the manufacture of its equipment. John was a member of the Golf Collectors Society, and actively participated in many of its events around the country. John was also a long-time player in the Society of Hickory Golfers’ tournaments around the country, which honor the traditions of the game by playing with antique, wooden-shafted clubs. During his lifelong participation in the two organizations, John won or placed highly in several tournaments and made many lifelong friends with whom he found camaraderie in his pursuit of all things golf. It is his family’s wish that the items that John treasured so much find loving new homes where they can continue to be enjoyed and tell the history of the sport that meant so much to their husband and father.
