Bobby Locke Autographed 3x5 Card with Tam O'Shanter Content

Dated 8/12/77, the double sided inscribed card reads as follows:

Dear Ms. Schuett,
Thank you very much for your letter of October 1st, hope you have a very good Xmas and New Years - I enjoyed the Tam O'Shanter tournament in Chicago, very much indeed. George S. May was a great tournament "Organiser".

From, Bobby Locke. Great content with the seldom seen signature from World Golf Hall of Famer (1977) Bobby Locke. Known as a phenomenal putter, Locke first attracted international attention when he defeated Sam Snead in 12 of 16 matches they played in South Africa. On Snead's urging, Locke came to the United States in 1947 and proceeded to win seven tournaments (finishing in the top 3 in 50% of the events he entered). A dispute with the PGA over the number of exhibitions and appearances Locke appeared in caused him to be suspended by the Tour. Claude Harmon stated that the real reason was "that he was to good" which rankled the U.S. professionals trying to make a living. He seldom played in the United States again, participating however in George May's events at Tam O'Shanter winning the All-American tournament in 1947 and 1950. He also was a frequent contender but never a winner of May's World Championship contested at the same course outside Chicago. Locke had some his greatest moments on golf's oldest stage winning the British Open in 1949,50,52,57. The signature of Locke, who passed at age 69 in 1987, is a sought after addition for many advanced golf autograph collections.
