Babe Zaharias 1938 LA Open Wire Photo - First Woman to Play in PGA Event

Babe Zaharias excelled in golf, basketball, baseball and won two gold medals in the 1932 Olympics in track and field competitions. She passed away at the young age of 45 in 1956. During her golfing career Babe Zaharias was victorious 41 times on the LPGA tour, with 10 of those being major victories. Despite not qualifying in 1937 she played as the first woman in a PGA event a year later at the tournament. Babe played the first two rounds with her soon to be husband George.
