1967 Peter Tufts' Officials Scorecard Pinehurst North/South Amateur William Campbell vs. William Hyndman Battle
The finals of the 1967 North/South Amateur at Pinehurst was a classic match up of two of the greatest amateur players of all time in William Campbell vs William Hyndman. Campbell was a eight time Walker Cupper while Hyndman appeared on five United States teams. Campbell featured the 1964 U.S. Amateur title on his resume while Hyndman was a four time runner up in top Amateur events (1955 U.S. and 1959, 69, 70 British), he defeated none other then Jack Nicklaus in the 1959 British Amateur. Flat out the two Bills could play golf. This however was not the match hoped for with Bill Campbell winning 10 and 9. His legend continued to grow for the two time President of the U.S.G.A. who was elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1980. He also was named Captain of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, just the third American to hold that post, becoming the first person to head both of golf's main governing bodies.
James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed the signature of Peter Tufts from the legendary Tufts ownership family of the Pinehurst resort who officialed the match and their auction letter of authenticity will come with this lot.
