1963 Masters Tournament Employee Badge - John Thornton - Golf Shop
Jack Nicklaus, the long-hitting Ohio native sunk a clutch 3 foot putt on the final hole to secure the victory and receive the green jacket at the hands of rival Arnold Palmer. Two years removed from his second US Amateur title, 23-year-old Nicklaus won for the first time at Augusta National Golf Club. He did it by defeating the following year's Champion Golfer of the Year, Tony Lema, by one stroke for a 268 total of 2-under par. Nicklaus would become a regular to wear the special jacket, slipping it over his broad shoulders five more times. John Thornton, an attendant at the Golf Shop at Augusta National that week, wore this 1963 Masters Tournament Employee Badge. It is in good condition, with Thornton's name and 'Golf Shop' on the badge's white nameplate.
