1962 US Open at Oakmont CC Ticket #3762 - Nicklaus First Win & Major

This Friday ticket #3762 is from Jack Nicklaus' historically significant victory at the 1962 US Open which saw golf's passing of the torch from the Palmer era to the Nicklaus era. Palmer entered the final day in a four way tie for first after 36 holes with Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus each two strokes back. On the 72nd hole and final hole that day Palmer would be tied with Nicklaus, Arnie's 12 footer on 18 for birdie and the win would not drop leaving the two tied forcing an 18 hole playoff the next day. Jack Nicklaus would prevail in the Sunday 18 hole playoff for his first career win. Palmer's post match quote to sum up Nicklaus' win would be, "Now that the big guy is out of the cage, everybody better run for cover." This ticket from the first of Jack's 18 Majors and is in excellent condition with sharp corners and only a small spot of paper loss on the back to speak of. All in all it was Jack's first win, a major none the less, and in Arnold Palmer's back yard at Oakmont.
