1959 Original Custom Redwood City 1A 15 Putter by Karsten with Original Grip
Here we have a Karsten Redwood 1A putter. This putter was the predecessor of the modern day putter, featuring a weighted heel and toe as opposed to the blade or bullseye putters seen up until the 1960's. Weighting the heel and toe as opposed to the center made it so essentially the sweetspot was wider, thus improving putting greatly. Karsten Solheim produced his first putters in his garage in Redwood City, CA before founding Ping. This Redwood City 1A putter comes in great condition and has sole stamps that read "Ping by Karsten Mod. 1 A 15, Redwood City, Calif. Pat. Pend." This particular putter was gifted to Jimmy Thompson, the head pro at Rancho Park Golf Course, during the Los Angeles Open in the 1960's by Karsten Solheim. The gift was given in appreciation for letting Solheim show his new putters at the putting green. The putter comes with the original green grip and green tape on the shaft. Measures 35 1/4" to the heel.
