1955 Masters Tournament Saturday 3rd Round Ticket #5 - Top Example & Very Low Number!
There are low serial number tickets, and there there is this exemplar boasting a low serial number! That is a singular "number" and it is all of #5 printed in the upper right corner - a scant four tickets issued prior in 1955. This choice, top condition example of this vibrant orange 1955 Masters third round ticket not only represents the week that Dr. Cary Middlecoff bested Ben Hogan to win his second of three majors, but it also was Arnold Palmer's debut Masters appearance at the hallowed Augusta National Golf Club. With CBS not starting their television coverage until 1956, being in attendance was the only way to watch the tournament unfold. To add to the already heavy historical content of the 1955 Masters, it marked the 20th anniversary of Gene Sarazen's remarkable double eagle, with the Sarazen Bridge approaching the 15th green dedicated on that Wednesday.
Closing his dental practice to focus on golf was the right decision. Cary Middlecoff defeated the thoroughbred Ben Hogan convincingly, stretching his four stroke lead to seven by the end of his final round. Middlecoff was already a household name in the game, as he had 29 of his impressive total 35 PGA wins under his belt. Similar to Jimmy Demaret, Middlecoff enjoyed being in front of the camera. Cary Middlecoff actually appeared in 'Follow the Sun' a motion picture about runner-up Ben Hogan's life four years prior. For accuracy purposes only, a minute light diagonal crease in bottom left hand corner and mark of imperfection on the front and back. This ticket far exceeds condition standards of its contemporaries, achieving in a seldom seen very good condition that boasts dark printing.

2. During extended bidding, you may bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. Lots with only ONE or NO BIDS will close at 10pm ET
Extended bidding starts at 10pm ET, and each lot will begin closing with its own 30-minute countdown timer. Lots without a bid placed during extended bidding will close at 10:30pm ET. We recommend you place your maximum bid(s) prior to that time. Thank you
