1953 Open Championship at Carnoustie Ordinary Ticket No. 663

Finding a ticket from the 1953 Open Championship tournament proves to be a challenging task. Presented in this lot is an exemplar with the same shape, color and design as the official admission to course tickets distributed that week, simply with the nondescript 'Golf Tournament' printed on the front and 'Open Championship 1953' notated in time-period pencil on the verso.

In 1953, before the largest gallery in Open history, Ben Hogan's Sunday round 68 was a new single round course record at Carnoustie. His 72 hole score of 282 was also the lowest score in the history of the Open Championship. There was nothing stopping him, as Hogan had claimed his third straight Major title of the year. He returned to the States for a New York ticker tape parade which was followed by a similar parade in his hometown of Fort Worth on Monday July 27th. Included in this lot is a ticket used at that tournament in Carnoustie in very good condition - the punched hole was in the original design.

Extended bidding starts at 10pm ET, and each lot will begin closing with its own 30-minute countdown timer. Lots without a bid placed during extended bidding will close at 10:30pm ET. We recommend you place your maximum bid(s) prior to that time. Thank you
