19th Annual St. Paul Open Championship Sterling Medal with Ribbon - 2nd Place Amateur
Competeing against a strong PGA Tour field. Frank Stranhan finished in 7th place overall behind champion Lloyd Mangrum. This fine showing would normally have earned Frank low amateur honors, but not this week as Dow Finsterwald's score of 272 for the four rounds was two strokes better for simon pure honors. For his efforts at St. Paul, Stranahan received this second place madal. Inscription reads:
