Top condition 1950 U.S. Open Contestants pin from the personal collection of the Penna brothers, Charley and Toney who competed in the event. This was the event that saw Ben Hogan capture his first post accident Major with a playoff win at Merion. Of course this was the site of the famous one iron on 18th hole to set up a three way playoff. The 1950 U.S. Open was the 50th U.S. Open, held June 8–11 at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, a suburb northwest of Philadelphia. In what became known as the "Miracle at Merion," Ben Hogan won his second U.S. Open in an 18-hole playoff over Lloyd Mangrum and George Fazio. It was the fourth of Hogan's nine major titles.

In order to bid in extended bidding you must place a bid on the lot before 9pm on auction closing day.

The Golf Auction is very excited to announce that this lot and the following one in this special US Open week 100 lot auction are the first two lots from the Penna Family Collection. This highly successful and respected professional golfing family will offer golf mementoes from the careers of brothers Toney Penna, Charley Penna, and Tommy Armour whom Toney and Charley worked under for many years as pros at Boca Raton in Florida and various courses in the Chicago area(See photo, which is not included in the sale with this lot,of the three Charley, Toney and the Silver Scott. Toney was a consistent top 20 money winner on the PGA Tour in the 1930's and 40's while his brother Charley competed in 20 U.S. Open and PGA Championships. We have it all from their storied careers in golf both on and off the course, including everything from contestants pins, to used sets of clubs, to prototypes for Penna's famous clubs. Toney is an icon when it comes to club making in the 20th Century, first with the MacGregor Golf Company as their cheif of design and then later with his own brand of Penna clubs. Many of the designs of clubheads used today were first developed by the genius of Toney. We will introduce you to this extrodinary collection by offering two lots from the families collection in this special US Open auction and the remainder in upcoming auctions starting next month with the Championship Sunday night of the British Open offering.
