1948 US Amateur Championship at Memphis CC Contestant Badge - Willie Turnesa Winner
Ten Years apart talented amateur golfer Willie Turnesa's US Amateur victories came, in 1938 and 1948. The 1948 Us Amateur was hosted by Memphis Country Club and came down to a finals with Willie Turnesa and Ray Billows. The former champion bested Billows in a close match 2 and 1. Possibly even better known for his family, Willie Turnesa was one of seven brothers that golfed. Willie was the only one to not turn professional. His amateur status presented him with three straight Walker Cup appearances from 1947 to 1951. This 1948 US Amateur Championship at Memphis CC Contestant Badge followed the classic USGA contestant badge design, in this case with the white and red enamel on gold color scheme. It is in very good condition, apart from the severed clasp on reverse. 1 1/8" x 1 1/4"
