1948 Masters Tournament Player Gift Ash Tray - Chandler Harper
A special offering in this lot comes in the form of the 1948 Masters Tournament player gift depicting the hole known as Azalea, Augusta National Golf Club's Par 5 13th hole. This treasured keepsake designed by Black,Starr & Gorham Inc. (as seen on reverse engraving) was presented by the club as a gift to Chandler Harper, the 1950 PGA Champion for his participation in the '48 event. Presents in great condition. This was the third installment of a yearly tradition which began in 1946 of presenting a gift to each of the contestants in the invitational event. Next to the assembling of a run of tickets/badges from each of the Masters tournaments, the collecting of each of the player gifts awarded has become a favorite among advanced Masters collectors. This ashtray etched with highest detailed design has become a true lynchpin of completing this collection. Making this lot even more appealing is that it belonged to Harper, the longtime friend of Bobby Jones and mentor to Curtis Strange.
