1942 Masters Tournament Saturday Ticket #1140 - Nelson Victory

There is so much history behind this 1942 Masters Tournament that we're not sure where to begin. This was the final Masters Tournament competition before the postponement due to World War II (the final Major tournament as well). Byron Nelson, the winner of the 1937 Masters, won in a playoff against Ben Hogan (only the 2nd multiple winner after Horton Smith). The 18 hole playoff was refereed by Bobby Jones himself. With the impending war, and the flirting with bankruptcy along the road for the previous 9 years, the 1942 Tournament would turn out to be the most important one in it's history. After dropping behind early on in the playoff, Nelson would go on a stretch that seemed cruel in it's perfection, Lord Byron shot 6 under from hole 6 through hole 13. This dual for the ages was over 70 years ago, and looking back it seems as though there was more than one victory that day. One for Nelson, and one for Augusta National. This ticket to Saturday's outing is in excellent condition with it's original string still intact
