1942 Masters Tournament Club House Badge

Offered here is an extremely scarce 1942 Masters Clubhouse badge. This admittance button to the most privileged of areas at the Augusta National, after 74 years, still retains the brightness and crispness of its original navy and white appearance. The reverse of the badge still maintains its original working pin clasp, but does exhibit a limited amount of tarnishing as is customary with the age of the piece. This Masters memento of Bobby Jones 9th invitational tournament measures 2 1/2 inches in diameter. As is the case with most pre-World War II Masters memorabilia it is a seldom seen treasure, which value is only enhanced by its near pristine condition, crying out for the most advanced of Golf collectors to take a swing at ownership of this valued early Masters collectible. There is so much history behind this 1942 Masters Tournament that we're not sure where to begin. This was the final Masters Tournament competition before the postponement due to World War II (the final Major tournament as well). Byron Nelson, the winner of the 1937 Masters, won in a playoff against Ben Hogan (only the 2nd multiple winner after Horton Smith). The 18 hole playoff was refereed by Bobby Jones himself. With the impending war, and the Augusta National flirting with bankruptcy over the previous 9 years, the 1942 Tournament would turn out to be the most important one in it's history. After dropping behind early on in the playoff, Nelson would go on a stretch of play that seemed cruel in it's perfection, Lord Byron shot 6 under from hole 6 through hole 13. This dual for the ages was over 70 years ago, and looking back it seems as though there was more than one victory that day. One for Nelson, and one for Augusta National. A must have addition to any Masters collection.
