1940 US Open at Canterbury GC Contestant Badge #106

Top condition example in NR-MT state of the scarce 1940 U.S. Open Contestants pin is offered for your consideration in this lot. This item was manufactured some 75 plus years ago by the Robbins Co. of Attleboro, Ma (see stamping on reverse) with the intended use of this item as identification and admittance to the most secure areas of a professional golf championship, i.e. driving range and players locker room. The manufactured run is limited to the field, in this case roughly 150 pieces. Creating immediate rarity even if all items existed some 75 years after the pressing, and we as collectors all know that is not the case. Rich blue, white and gold enamel still gleams from this 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" badge of entry to tackle golfs greatest challenge a U.S. Open laid out course. As a reference point Contestants Badge #81 from the 1940 U.S. Open sold for $1,630.70 in The Golf Auctions 2013 Summer auction.

Please note: This auction will end at 7:00pm EST on Sunday, JUNE 19th with EXTENDED BIDDING to follow. All items in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15 minute time period. All lots are free to be bid on until extended bidding has ended
