1939 Western Open Program with Pairing Sheet and Scorecard - Nelson Win
The Western Open is a true treasure of Golf with a rich history which dates to its first competition in 1899. An early staple of the PGA Tour often prepared for, and regarded as a Major. The 1939 field drew a pre-World War II who's who of the sport that included Denny Shute, Tommy Armour, Johnny Revolta, Ralph Guldahl, Henry Picard, Horton Smith, Sam Snead, Lloyd Mangrum and Byron Nelson. Contested in 1939 at Medinah Country Club one of the finest courses in the World, the championship would be claimed by Byron Nelson with a one stroke triumph over fellow Hall of Famer Lloyd Mangrum. This lot offers three seldom seen items from this event which include scorecard, pairing sheet and program. All three items remain in stunning near mint condition. This grouping offers a look at historical 1930's golf from a Nelson win during his 1939 Vardon trophy winning season.
Please note: This auction will end at 7:00pm EST on August 2nd with extended bidding to follow. All items in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15 minute time period. All lots are free to be bid on until extended bidding has ended
