1939 US Open Wire Photo of Lawson Little Putting

Presented here is a 7 5/8" x 6 1/8" wire photo from the 1939 US Open. The photo shows Lawson Little putting, though Byron Nelson would ultimately be victorious. Little captured both the U.S. and British Amateur titles in 1934, and to put an exclamation point on his superior play he repeated the feat in 1935 capturing both amateur titles again. Over this stretch he would win 32 consecutive matches in the two events. This dominance, which was not previously accomplished, and is most likely to never be seen again, earned Little the title for his feat of the "Little Slam".
