The provenace on this item is impeccable coming from a family who was Bobby Jones neighbors in the Tuxedo Park neighborhood of Atlanta in the 1930's and 40's. This invitation was found with the 1939 clubhouse badge of Mrs. Charles H. Black Jr. which is also offered in this auction (Lot#). As sent out of the office of Augusta National founder Clifford Roberts this invite was for the Masters week 1939 parties held Saturday and Sunday evening. The Saturday evening event was hosted by William H. Wallace of New York City. One of Roberts close New York friends and an original founding member of the Augusta National. It is interesting to note the change in culture from the 1930's to today. With this event being billed as a barbecue dinner, yet guests being asked to wear black tie. Sunday's event was an informal chicken dinner. The host was another 1930's mover and shaker member of the club, John J. Hopkins. A lawyer by trade, Hopkins would go on to found General Dynamics and his vision created the World of Golf event. Condition on this blank back invitation remains near mint, free from creasing. A seldom scene 1930's collectible from the sixth year of the Masters.
