Offered here is an extremely scarce 1939 Masters clubhouse badge. This admittance button to the most privileged of areas at the Augusta National, after 73 years, still retains the brightness and crispness of its original black and gold appearance. The reverse of the badge still maintains its original working pin clasp, but does exhibit tarnishing as is customary with the age of the piece. The 2 1/2 inch Masters memento of Bobby Jones sixth invitational tournament contains a 1 3/4 inch paper insert which bears the typed name of Mrs. Charles Black Jr. The Black family were neighbors of the Jones in the prestigous and picturesque Atlanta neighborhood of Tuxedo Park(today known more commonly as Buckhead). This area of Atlanta's "movers and shakers" was developed by the wealthy landowner Charles H. Black, Sr. with his son, Charles H. Black, Jr's construction company providing the building services for the homes in the area including the Bobby Jones columned mansion at 3425 Tuxedo Road. It is Black Jr.'s wife who received this addmittance badge to the clubhouse at the 1939 Masters.Impeccable provenance of this badge coming from Jones' neighbors when combined with the scarcity of item, and its near pristine condition cry out for the most advanced of Masters collectors to take a swing at ownership of this treasured early Masters collectible.
