1939 Amateur Public Links Contestant Badge #72 - Baltimore

Presented here is an excellent contestants badge from the 1939 Amateur Public Links Championship. 1939 saw the Championship held at Mount Pleasant Park GC, and an astounding total of 2,401 golfers entered. This was was nearly 10 times the amount from the previous year. For the very first time due to the extraordinary number of entries, sectional qualifying was held. Thirty-three courses around the country held qualifiers, and 178 made the trip to Baltimore to compete. In was Andrew Szwedko’s fifth attempt to win the tournament, and the 32 year old steelworker from Pittsburgh defeated Philip Gordon by a score of 1-up to claim the title.
