1937 Masters Contestant Badge - Felix Serafin - Nelson's First Major Victory
Being only the 4th Masters Tournament, as well as the first major victory of Byron Nelson's illustrious career, the rarity of such an item needs no further introduction. The competition was still officially called the Augusta National Invitation Tournament, and offered here is Felix Serafin's 1937 Masters Tournament Contestant Badge in excellent condition. On Sunday, Nelson made up an astounding 6 strokes on Ralph Gudahl over the course of 2 holes (going birdie-eagle on 12-13) en route to his first of six major victories. The Nelson Bridge was dedicated in 1958 at the No. 13 tee as a permanent reminder of Nelson's first Masters victory.
This is the only publicly known contestant's badge from Byron Nelson's first major victory to be held at auction. Previous items from the '37 Tournament have been a Clubhouse Badge and ticket.
There were only 46 players in the field. Badge has 2 1/2" diameter and presents great with its' red/coral color. Badge is number 45 and pin is intact as well as Serafin nameplate.
Please note: This auction will end at 7:00pm EST on February 22nd with extended bidding to follow. All items in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15 minute time period. All lots are free to be bid on until extended bidding has ended.
