1936 US Open at Baltusrol Golf Club Friday Ticket #3264 Signed by HoF Boxer Joe Louis
Whether you want to consider the late boxing sensation Joe Louis the Bobby Jones or Tiger Woods of his sport is up to you, as an argument could be made for either great that took hold of their era. Louis dominated the field made up of his boxing cohorts starting as a 20-year old in 1934 until 1951, reigning as the world heavyweight champion from 1937 until 1949. A high grade example of his signature is found in blue ink on this 1936 US Open scalloped edge ticket. Louis passed away in 1981 at age 66, but not before solidifying himself as one of the first African-American nationwide heroes outside the ring. The legend in not just boxing but the world of sport enjoyed the game of golf like many athletes and celebrities do, participating and attending golf tournaments such as the 1936 US Open. While he didn't play in it, a spectator that likely recognized the larger-than-life figure taking in the professional golf beside them and obtained his autograph on their ticket used for the event at Baltusrol. Tony Manero would go on to victory taking only 282 shots, a then US Open record low. The ticket has some residue marks from display of the signature at some point. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity comes with this lot.

All items that have received multiple bids in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15 minute time period (at 10pm EST, the countdown clock will be adjusted to a 5 minute interval). 1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots that are active in extended bidding will close at the same time, and those with only ONE or NO BIDS will close at 9pm EST
