1936 Augusta National Member Masters Badge and Ribbon
There was a time when the Masters was the Augusta National Invitational Tournament, Champions dinners never happened, Bob Jones was Bobby, and Horton Smith had only Masters Victory. This time was 1936, and the scarcity of items from that year's tournament are well known throughout the golf collecting world. Heavy rains postponed the first round until Friday, and Sunday's play was also postponed. The third and fourth rounds were played on Monday. No wonder items from this infamous event are hard to come by, they were probably all washed away. There were only 53 payers in the field, and probably only as handful more member's. The tournament was still trying to scratch the surface in popularity, and obviously there were very few of these to be made. Based on our research and knowledge base, there may only be 4 or 5 of these that exist today. There's a chance Augusta National may not even have one of these in their possession.
The diameter of the badge is 2 1/8", and the ribbons extends out 2 1/2". There is tape applied to the button holding the ribbon in place to show the piece in it's entirety. The consignor has placed the tape there, and the winning bidder shouldn't have an issue having the ribbon restored to the button if they so choose.
