1936 Augusta National Clubhouse Original News Service Photo PSA Slabbed #84890518

Assigned the highly coveted 'Type 1' photo identifier is this crystal clear shot of the then 85-year-old (approximately) Augusta National Golf Clubhouse 9" x 7" taken in 1936. This original Acme photo was used to preview the 1936 'forthcoming Masters.' The Augusta National clubhouse is believed to be the first concrete house built in the South. It was built in 1854 as the home of Dennis Redmond, owner of the indigo plantation that came before Fruitlands Nursery. It is the most famous clubhouse in golf and signifies the tradition and grandeur associated with ANGC and the Masters. The depicted original 1854 pillars and structure withstood talks of being torn down and starting over, fortunately the Great Depression disallowed that. Also pictured is the large oak tree that was a meeting place for conversation planted just after the famous structure was erected. Finally, there is a row of eight lawn chairs with three hat clad gentleman seated.

The verso attached caption reads: 'Where Masters Invitation Tourney will be played - A view of the Augusta National Club House at Augusta, Ga., where the forthcoming Masters Invitation Golf Tourney will be played. On the right is the Golf House, and 85-year-old structure, and on the right, the club-house proper." It is encapsulated by PSA for preservation, presentation and valuation by photography authenticating leader PSA/DNA.
