1934-2006 Masters Champions' Signatures - Deluxe Framed
The first "Augusta National Invitational" Tournament, as the Masters was first known was contested on March 22, 1934. Over the next 81 years this event has grown in magnitude from Bobby Jones little gathering of top golfers of the day into a world-wide spectacle ranking at the top of both players and spectators lists of golfing opportunities. For professional golfers to win the Masters is to rise to the top of their profession...to stamp their name on the most cherished of tournament play achievements. Offered for the first time in our auction houses history is the comprehensive run of past champions autographs starting with Horton Smith in 1934 and running through Phil Mickelson in 2006 (there was no tournament in 1943-45 during the war years). This is an instant seven-decade complete "set" that could otherwise take years of searching to accumulate. In addition to the inaugural '34 champion Horton Smith who was the first former champion to pass away in 1963, there are several other extremely desirable scarce autographs represented on this splendid showpiece...including the 1941 champ Craig Wood and the 1948 champ Claude Harmon (primarily a club pro who appeared very seldom in professional events, with an extremely finite number of his signatures known in the golf collecting community). An exceptional complete run of 42 signatures from Masters champions 1934-2006.The autographs appear in time period inks that include steel-tip fountain pen, ballpoint pen and fiber-tip marker on this praise worthy compilation. This 33 x 44 offering features the highest quality of autographs with all signatures presenting in "8" to "10" strength of autograph. A collection of Masters champions is desired by all, and sought after by virtuall every golf collector, but only a very few due to scarcity and costs involved will ever obtain what was assembled here. Each signature presented here has been reviewed by James Spence Authentication and their letter of authenticity comes with this item (please see image of letter to be included with lot).
