1931 US Open Championship at Inverness Program - Billy Burke Winner
Billy Burke burst into sudden fame when he came from behind to tie George Von Elm after 72 holes for the 1931 United States Open Championship. The two remained tied after the first playoff contested over 36 holes. In the second 36 hole playoff Burke was the winner by one stroke. Winning the marathon, and bringing a change to 18 holes for U.S.G.A. Open playoffs. Of note, Burke in winning was the first to triumph at the US Open with steel-shafted clubs. The fully intact program as produced by the U.S.G.A. for the Open held at Inverness Club in Toledo OH is offered in this lot. How many have survived the years since this Major? Rest assured not many. This 85 year old program presents with colors still vibrant, the binding has a tear in it, but it is firmly secure on the program. There are no tears on any of the pages, and all are in great shape.
