1931 US Amateur at Beverly Country Club Official Program - Francis Ouimet Winner

If this program looks different to you it is, as we have not offered the 1931 US Amateur example from Francis Ouimet's final major victory purchased for 25 cents that week at the Beverly Country Club in Chicago, IL. While likely many were purchased 89 years ago at the Donald Ross course, few remain in circulation. Bobby Jones was of course the defending champion, with this publication acknowledging that with a picture of the retiree Jones inside. While many consider Bobby Jones to be the greatest amateur golfer ever to play, Francis Ouimet is known as the "father of amateur golf" in the United States. Ouimet won the 1913 U.S. Open and the U.S. Amateur Championship in 1914 and 1931. With exactly 17 years in between to the day, celebrated amateur golfer Ouimet out-dueled Jack Westland 6 and 5 in the 1931 US Amateur final match in Chicago at Beverly. It would prove to be Francis Ouimet's third and final major. This tough program is in good condition, with its condition exceeding most of those few remaining from that print run. A black and white picture of the Beverly Country Club clubhouse is prominently featured on the cover, with illustrated golfers leaning on the "35th." This was of course United States Golf Association's 35th installment of the United States Amateur championship.
