1929 Western Open Poster
The Western Open, founded and run by the Western Golf Association, was first played in 1899. Like the U.S. Open, in its early days it was usually won by visiting professionals from the United Kingdom. In its early decades it was widely regarded as a major championship. The 1929 Western Open saw Tommy Armour win by eight shots over his nearest challenger Horton Smith. In near mint condition this early advertising piece, as produced by the W.G.A. to promote the tournament held at Ozaukee C.C. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, measures 16 1/2" x 10 1/2" when open(8 1/2" x 10 1/2" folded)
