1929 US National Amateur Contestant Badge


In 1929, ten years after Pebble Beach opened it's course to the world, hosted its first major - the U.S. Amateur. A match play event, it was won by Harrison R. Johnston of Minnesota, but Bobby Jones tied for medalist honors in the stroke play qualifier. Jones, the grand slam winner the following season, probably used his first round exit as motivation.
