1928 U.S. Amateur Program - Bobby Jones Victory
Items from any Bobby Jones Major Championship wins are few and far between, with very few originals from victories hitting the market place. Offered in this lot is an excellent condition program (with spine strongly intact, all pages present ad retaining almost its exact printing color from 80 years earlier. This highly sought after publication comes from Jones' win at the 1928 United States Amateur hosted by the U.S.G.A.. This program as identified by front cover scripting belonged to John Beck(Great Britain Walker Cup player in 1928, 1938, and 1947 who lost to Bobby Jones in the 3rd round of the '28 Am). This contestants personal program has been autographed by George Voigt(3rd place finisher from North Hills). James Spence Authentication (JSA) provides letter of authenticity for the Voight signature.
The 1928 United States Amateur Championship saw Bobby Jones at the most dominate stage of his career. This event played in match play saw Jones post a staggering double digit triumph in each of his last three matches on the way to the title - quarter-final match (14 and 13 equaling the most decisive win in the events history), the semi-final Friday September 14 (13 and 12), and the route completing final win was a 10 and 9 victory over T. Phillip Perkins who was a top competitor of the day as the reigning British Amateur Champion. It truly was a record setting Amateur for Jones in claiming his fourth of a record five career U.S.G.A Amateur Championships.
