1926 US Open at Scioto Contestant Bag Tag - Bobby Jones' Open Victory
Offered in this lot is one of the first examples of the conestant bag tag from the historically significant 1926 U.S. Open. This tag served as an identifier on the course for the elite few golfers who had full access to one of Bobby Jones greatest career moments. This is a spectacular high-grade example of this early U.S. Open tag. It's reverse print is bold, matching the green on the front containing all of the pertinent information. As significant as this piece of ephemera is for scarcity and condition of equal appeal to collectors is the champion in '26 was Bobby Jones. In the 1926 U.S. Open contested at Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio, Jones made a spectacular two-putt birdie on the 72nd hole to win by one stroke over Joe Turnesa claiming his second U.S. Open Championship (1923). With the victory, and already having claimed the British Open title earlier in the summer, Jones became the first golfer to hold both titles simultaneously. This 1926 contestant bag tag provides all the requisites of the ideal golf collectible, and would be a worthy inclusion or upgrade in just about any advanced collection
