1926 US Open Official Badge and Ribbon - Bobby Jones' Open Victory
Offered in this marquee lot is certainly one of the finest examples of the seldom scene 1926 U.S. Open badges this example carrying the Committee Member designation. This pin served as a badge of passage to the course for the elite few golfers who had full access to one of Bobby Jones greatest career moments. This is a spectacular high-grade example of this early U.S. Open badge. The reverse contains the original button backing paper of the manufacturer Whitehead & Hoag. Co. Newark, N.J., and its original clasping pin is still operational today. As significant as this badge is for scarcity and condition of equal appeal to collectors is the champion in '26 was Bobby Jones. In the 1926 U.S. Open contested at Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio, Jones made a spectacular two-putt birdie on the 72nd hole to win by one stroke over Joe Turnesa claiming his second U.S. Open Championship (1923). With the victory, and already having claimed the British Open title earlier in the summer, Jones became the first golfer to hold both titles simultaneously. Dimensions are 1 1/2" in diameter for button, with adorning ribbon intact and extending to an overall length of 3 3/4".This 1926 badge provides all the requisites of the ideal golf collectible, and would be a worthy inclusion or upgrade in just about any advanced collection
