1923 Western Golf Association Open Championship Gold Medal Won by Jock Hutchison
Widely considered a Major Championship at this time, the 1923 Western Open was contested at the prestigious Colonial Country Club in Tennessee August 4-5 nearly 100 years ago. This museum quality 14-karat gold winner's medal was awarded to champion Jock Hutchison and carries the prestigious Western Golf Association Open Championship crest in detailed relief on the front side, an organization that spared no expense during production of their first place prize. A dominate performance winning margin of 6 strokes, Hutchison's 3-under par performance totaling 281 strokes topped the great Walter Hagen along with T-2 Leo Diegel, Bobby Cruickshank and Joe Kirkwood jr. It would be the second of two Western Open titles for Jock Hutchison, playing victor again three years prior at Olympia Fields.14k gold, as marked on the verso bottom. Reverse engraving reads: '1923 - Won By - Jock Hutcheson. Interestingly enough the recent American citizen often had his name misspelled on medals, with this being another example of that. As a comparison piece, Jock Hutchison's 1920 Western Open Gold Medal sold in our February auction for $16,272.50.

All items that have received multiple bids in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15-minute time period (at 10pm ET, the countdown clock will be adjusted to a 5 minute interval). Place your bids now!
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots that are active in extended bidding will close at the same time, and those with only ONE or NO BIDS will close at 9pm ET
**If extended bidding goes pass midnight ET, The Golf Auction reserves the right to close the auction at any time. We recommend bidders place their maximum bids prior to that time. Thank you**
