1920's Scottish Golfer David Sutherland Original Photos and Newspaper Articles
Prior to World War II, David Sutherland was a fine football (soccer) player. Effects of poisonous gas made him decide to switch to the game of golf. He was selected to the Scottish International Team in 1922, and became the head pro at Balmore. In 1926 he left Scotland to become the head pro at Fall River C.C. in Massachusetts. In this lot there is a newspaper photo with he and Francis Ouimet. After a short stint there, he was then hired as the head pro at Westwood C.C. (St. Louis) in 1926. Widely respected as a teaching pro, he later became a trick shot artist. Mr. Sutherland also spent time in Hollywood as a technical advisor for Bobby Jones shorts and appeared in a few movies as well. Following his time in Hollywood and Westwood, he was then made the head pro for Crystal Lake in 1932. Included in this lot are ,any photos and tournament scores, letters of reccomendation, movie photo, photo and short article with Francis Ouimet, and much more
