1913 US Amateur Championship at Garden City GC Contestant Badge - Jerome Travers Winner
Sourced from an unknown 1913 US Amateur contestant, this USGA relic is rich with detail and historical significance. The New York born Jerome Travers took down fellow New Englander John G. Anderson of Braeburn, Massachusetts 5 & 4 at the Garden City Country Club in New York during the 1913 US Amateur Championship. An exceptional amateur talent, Jerome Travers won his fourth US Amateur in 1913. This number would not be topped until another amateur golfer named Bobby Jones won the 1930 US Amateur for his fifth title. While winning his last US Amateur in 1913, it would not be Travers' last major. The 1915 US Open went Jerome Travers' way as he was able to capture both USGA majors during his World Golf Hall of Fame career.
"I have scarcely ever seen a match between two amateurs in which the play went on hole after hole with so few mistakes and so many brilliant shots; there were, too, so many deadly thrusts by one party, met with such unwavering parries by the other, and neither man ever 'cracked' or even weakened," the great Bernard Darwin once said regarding the 1913 contest. This early contestant badge is seldom seen and offered to the public very sparingly. The badge is in very good condition, with all details present and color remaining vibrant. 1 1/4" in diameter

All items that have received multiple bids in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15 minute time period (at 10pm EST, the countdown clock will be adjusted to a 5 minute interval). 2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
