1902 Women's US Amateur Championship at Brookline Member Badge - Only One Known!

The historic Brookline Country Club in Massachusetts played host to the 1902 Women's US Amateur Championship. Culminating in a 4 & 3 finals victory Genevieve Hecker prevailed over Louisa A. Wells to defend her US Women's Amateur title. 1901's setting was Baltusrol Golf Club in which Hecker outperformed Lucy Herron 5 & 3 in the finals.

'Women's Golf Championship of the U.S.G.A. 1902 Member' is printed on this blue badge in commanding black lettering encircled by the setting 'The Country Club - Brookline, Mass.' This early United States Golf Association tournament member badge is the only one known of its kind and comes from the collection of 1909-1910 USGA President Herbert Jacques. Despite perceived challenges to condition for tickets and programs of this caliber age, handling and weather did not hurt this piece that remains in excellent condition, with its original string intact to 1 3/4" diameter badge.

THE HERBERT JACQUES COLLECTION - USGA PRESIDENT 1909 & 1910

Noteworthy in the fact that this material is "fresh" to the golf collecting hobby, having recently been located on the upper East Coast. It's original owner was Hebert Jacques a renowned New England industrialist, architect and golf enthusiast. He was a member at The Country Club, Brookline, Massachusetts known as the first 'country club' in the United States which also had the acclaim as being among the first five founding members of the U.S. Golf Association. Jacques ascended to the 1907-08 Executive Committee of the U.S.G.A and became the eighth President of the organization in 1909-10. He remained ingrained in the administrative side of the game as the President of the Massachusetts Golf Association when Brookline hosted the 1913 U.S. Open. Long after his death in 1916, Jacques family was still highly involved in golf with his son Herbert Jacques serving as President of the U.S.G.A in the term 1933-34.
