1898 & 1899 The Island Golf Club Trophy Jugs Purportedly Gifted From Bobby Jones To Babe Zaharias

C.F. Norton was presented these two jug trophies in 1898 and 1899 when he defended his title at The Island Golf Club. While one has the correct dating on it, the 1899 trophy is incorrectly engraved '1989' as well by the engraver with a cognitive slip of the hand. Without question, they are spectacular in their red & blue opposite color brilliance. They appear to be of aged ceramic with a sterling silver medallion embedded on each trophy. Each trophy measures about 8" in height, about 5" across the base and the medallion measures about 2" x 2". The blue trophy's medallion reads as follows: Island Golf Club December Handicap 1898 Won by C. F. Norton The red trophy's medallion reads as follows: Island Golf Club November Handicap 1898 Won by C. F. Norton. These were purportedly gifted to Bobby Jones by the C.F. Norton family in the 1930's, who were quite close with Jones. Jones then presented them to Babe Zaharias decades later and stored away in the Babe Zaharias Foundation estate since. A signed letter of provenance from The Babe Zaharias Foundation comes with this lot.
