1890's Lenox CAC Clayton Ceramic Humidor with Sterling Top
William Clayton produced this rare ceramic humidor with a golfing scene in shades of green. With one gentleman putting as another looks on, the caddie is looking eager as well. Also depicted is a home, possibly an old clubhouse. Clayton, a native of Trenton, NJ, was an early student of Walter Lenox from whom he learned the art of painting ceramic and other material. After 1908, Clayton later became the CO for the company. This exceptional piece of art dates to well over 115 years old, as the '98 next to the signature shows. Signed W.H. Clayton 98. Present on the bottom is the stamping of Lenox CAC in green. Featured at the top of the humidor is a a Lebkuecher & Co. sterling lid. From a Tuckahoe, NY estate. The humidor stands 6" tall and is accompanied by a monogram to sterling lid. As you can see, the presentation of this piece of golf art history is exceptional.
